Many people rent a safe deposit box to store important and valuable documents and items that are hard or impossible to replace. Safe deposit boxes offer privacy and security for these items rather than keeping them in your home where they are prone to burglary, fire and water damage.
The Dime Bank takes every precaution to protect the contents of our safe deposit boxes. They are manufactured to be highly resistant to fire, water, flood, earthquakes, hurricanes and other types of disasters. They also utilize alarms, heat and motion detectors, locks and video cameras. The contents of your safe deposit box are not protected by federal bank insurance.
It is advisable to keep a list of the contents in your box and you may even consider storing items in plastic zip bags for added protection.
Some of the documents you may wish to keep in your safe deposit box are family records (birth, marriage and death certificates), originals of insurance policies, deeds, titles, stocks and bonds. You may also wish to keep valuables such as jewelry, rare collectibles and medals. Another suggestion is to videotape or take photos of the contents of your home and keep those in the safe deposit box should you need to file an insurance claim.
There are some items that you may not wish to keep in your safe deposit box, such as items that you may need to access quickly or during non-banking hours. It is advisable to keep copies of these items in your safe deposit box in case they are ever lost or stolen.
Only you have access to your safe deposit box unless you elect to have a co-renter. The bank will grant safe deposit box access to valid authorized users only. The Dime Bank is here to keep your valuables safe!
